To receive Medicaid, the federal-state program providing health care to some low-income individuals, individuals must meet financial tests also required under the Social Security Supplemental Security Income program for the disabled and blind as well as adults over 65.
Under SSI rules, assets are limited to $2,000, excluding a recipient’s home, primary vehicle and certain other resources. If individuals meet the asset test, they are then subject to a variety of income tests.
