YES

By number of delegates awarded, Bernie Sanders was in first place at the end of February, just before the multi-state "Super Tuesday" primaries, with 63 pledged, ahead of Joe Biden at 54 delegates and Pete Buttigieg at 26.

Sanders lost any claim to "frontrunner" status on Super Tuesday (March 3) when, despite winning California, Sanders lost the overall delegate tally to Biden, 558 to 648. Sanders suspended his campaign for president on April 8, a day after losing Wyoming to Biden.

Over the course of the primaries, Sanders won contests in New Hampshire, Nevada, Vermont, Utah, Colorado, California, North Dakota, the Northern Mariana Islands and the Democrats Abroad caucus.

Between 2020 and 2022, under close editorial supervision, Gigafact contracted a group of freelance writers and editors to test the concepts for fact briefs and provide inputs to our software development process. We call this effort Gigafact Foundry. Over the course of these two years, Gigafact Foundry writers published over 1500 fact briefs in response to claims they found online. Their important work forms the basis of Gigafact formats and editorial guidelines, and is available to the public on Gigafact.org. Readers should be aware that while there is still a lot of relevant information to be found, not all fact briefs produced by Gigafact Foundry reflect Gigafact's current methods and standards for fact briefs.
