On November 8, 2018, the Democratic candidate for governor of Georgia, Stacey Abrams, lost to then-Secretary of State Brian Kemp in a narrowly decided election fraught with allegations of voter suppression and interference. Citing these concerns, Abrams did not concede the race in the days immediately following the election. However, on November 16, Abrams admitted defeat and acknowledged that Kemp would be inaugurated as Governor. While Abrams continues to question the validity of the election, she has not claimed to be Governor.
