A 2008 study covering 335 instances of pathogens identified between 1940 and 2004 found that 60.3% were zoonotic diseases, caused by germs that spread among animals and people. The study also found that 71.8% of zoonotic diseases (also known as zoonoses) originated in wild animals and are increasing over time.
