Experts say COVID-19 vaccines do not wipe out natural antibodies from COVID-19, and instead boost antibodies.
Vaccines produce a more consistent immune response to the coronavirus, since mild infections lead to lower antibody levels than more severe infections, said Dr. C. Buddy Creech, a Vanderbilt University vaccine expert.
Creech said those who have been infected will benefit from receiving a vaccine, since it will “boost the immune response that was made during the initial infection.”
Matthew Frieman, an associate professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, said vaccines will boost production of antibodies to combat the spike proteins of the coronavirus in people who recovered from the virus.
