Fewer than 50% of people infected by the coronavirus suffer no symptoms, according to multiple studies from the first months of the 2020 pandemic. In other words, more than half of infected people do show symptoms.
In one sample of nearly 4,000 people, about 18% percent of those who tested positive never experienced symptoms. Dr. Robert Redfield, Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, has said the number of asymptomatic cases may be as high as 25%. One survey that produced a much higher number, 88%, was limited to a group of young, healthy, pregnant women visiting a New York hospital.
