The Biden campaign's recently-released policy promises on energy acknowledge that the "Green New Deal" championed by progressive Democratic House members is a "crucial framework" for addressing climate change. It shares that group's goals of zero net emissions, a $2 trillion price tag and a focus on disadvantaged communities.
The original Green New Deal sets a more aggressive timetable for its major goals, to which Biden adds five years.
The ideas also draw on the work of Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, an early entrant in the Democratic primary who focused his campaign on climate and energy issues.
