On May 12, the Los Angeles City Attorney's office said it had brought criminal charges against an additional 60 non-essential businesses for violating the "safer at home" order imposed in March to slow spread of the coronavirus. Businesses including gyms, hair salons, massage parlors and smoke shops were charged with violations.
The businesses were either not yet approved to reopen or failed to comply and enforce mandated safety measures such as physical distancing or wearing masks. Their owners face criminal misdemeanor charges and the businesses could possibly lose their licenses to operate.
