A tiny radio frequency identification chip can be placed under a syringe label but it would not be injected into patients, according to ApiJect Systems Corp., a manufacturer of pre-filled syringes. Although a chip can track the location of a shot, it won't track individuals and it is not capable of gathering personal information.
The chips have a unique serial number for each dose and are designed so that there is no counterfeiting, according to ApiJect. The chips allow health care workers to check if the vaccine has expired and therefore that dose should not be used.
