Republicans are generally less supportive of government mandates to wear masks to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
A late July survey for The Hill found that 82% of Americans overall endorsed the idea of a nationwide mandate, with 93% of Democrats in favor and 66% of Republicans. An Associated Press poll earlier in the month found support for mask requirements at 75% nationally, with the Democrat-Republican split at 89%-58%.
In Wisconsin, an early August poll found that 93% of the state's Democrats, 71% of independents and 43% of Republicans supported mask mandates.
