Effective in September 2020, Amazon will require third-party sellers to disclose their name and address details to U.S. customers, following already-established practice in the European Union, Japan and Mexico.
Previously, third-party sellers have only had to share the information with Amazon, not its customers. "Listing seller information will make it easier for customers to get in contact with the seller or take legal action in the event that they purchased an item that caused harm," says Consumer Affairs, a Nevada-based product-review site. The Wall Street Journal last year identified more than 4,000 banned, unsafe or mislabeled products offered by third-party sellers using Amazon.
